India Needs A Strong Pool of International Mediators
Mediation is becoming the preferred way to resolve disputes around the world, pointed out SIMC CEO Chuan Wee Meng, on his recent visit to India.
Mediation is faster and more cost efficient than arbitration and other forms of dispute resolution, he explained.
Indian parties are the second-largest users of SIMC services, accounting for 8.4 per cent of its overseas clients. “This reflects Indians’ preference for Singapore’s capabilities in managing mediation cases,” he added.

SIMC plans to increase its presence in India, with added offerings of trainings, in line with its past India Specialist Mediator's Workshops and partnerships with Indian organisations like Mediation Mantras (MM) and Centre for Advanced Mediation Practice (CAMP).
How it all started for us at Mediation Mantras.
The co-founders of Mediation Mantras - Radhika Shapoorjee and Mehernosh Shapoorjee - joined the global mediation movement and SIMC's panel of Specialist Mediators having passed the first-ever India Specialist Mediator Workshop conducted by SIMC in 2019.
Mediation Mantras at the United Nations Singapore Convention on Mediation
A few months after us being certified as India Specialist Mediators, we conceptualised and introduced Mediation Mantras to the world, in Singapore, as special guests of SIMC at the signing ceremony of the UN Convention on Mediation, aka the Singapore Convention.
We are also proud to say, India was one of the first countries to become a signatory to the Singapore Convention.
Post Convention Partnership and Growth
The second India Specialist Mediator's Workshop for senior non-legal industry professionals was scheduled to be co-presented by Mediation Mantras + CAMP with Singapore International Mediation Centre, in 2019-20, but unfortunately, it had to be cancelled due to the onset of Covid-19.
But to keep up the momentum gathering around Mediation in India, SIMC along with Mediation Mantras and CAMP hosted the first ever India-Singapore Mediation Summit 2021, which was attended by around 20,000 people online from across the world.
Since then, Mediation Mantras has built several partnerships with mediators and mediation associations across India and the world, focusing on private pre-litigation mediation and mediation skills training.
Today, we have 100s of hours of mediation behind us, and have trained over 250 people in mediation skills. And we have had our own fair share of mediating disputes of entities across international borders.
We look back with nostalgia and pride. And we are grateful for the opportunity to help UnConflict Our World, one relationship, one mediated conversation at a time!
